Mission Statement:  Christ is Lord.  Following our Savior's example, the John Calvin Presbyterian Church accepts the call to worship God, teach the Scriptures, grow in faith, serve the community, love and encourage one another, and proclaim the Good news.

History

Early 1960's --  Pee Dee Presbytery purchased the land on which John Calvin Presbyterian Church currently sits.  The land was later deeded to the church.

October 13, 1963 -- First meeting for persons interested in participating in the new church; meeting held at Briggs Elementary School 

October 20, 1963 -- The new congregation began to observe weekly worship and Sunday School at Royall Elementary School.  Fifty-eight people petitioned Pee Dee Presbytery to organize the John Calvin Presbyterian Church.  They and 8 other persons composed the charter membership roll which was closed on Easter Sunday March 29, 1964. 

February 2, 1964 -- At a meeting at People's Federal Savings and Loan, the Church was organized and the minister was elected.  At that meeting,  6 elders and 6 deacons were elected.   

June 2, 1965 -- Groundbreaking service was held for construction of the first building.     The General Assembly provided a trailer to place on the church site;  it was used for worship until the completion of the construction of the first building.  

March 20, 1966 -- The congregation worshipped for the first time in the new building, a combination fellowship hall and sanctuary.   The building was dedicated on April 17, 1966. 

June 1977 -- The Sunday School and multi-purpose sections of the building were completed.  

February 3, 1980 -- The first worship service was held in the new sanctuary. 

March 1980 - Dedication of the new sanctuary was scheduled for March 2, but it had to be postponed for one week due to a snow storm.   The dedication was held on March 9.  

January 26, 1988 -- The organizational meeting for New Harmony Presbytery was held in John Calvin's sanctuary.
